Training Program Held for Technical Exchange with Taiwan Film & Audiovisual Institute

From November 5 to 8, 2024, we hosted a four-day training program on film restoration at our Osaka Production Center, welcoming six staff members from Taiwan Film & Audiovisual Institute (TFAI).

This program was developed as part of our collaboration with TFAI, an organization dedicated to  preserving cultural assets such as classic Taiwanese films and television programs. Through our work in digitizing and producing  analog duplications of film materials for TFAI, we saw an opportunity to engage in a technical exchange between our two organizations, both of which specialize in film preservation—a practice that has become increasingly rare worldwide.

The four-day training extended beyond facility and equipment tours, providing a meaningful platform for staff from both organizations to work together on aged film materials. Participants took part in a comprehensive series of tasks, including physical film repair, timing, printing, scanning, and color grading. This practical collaboration facilitated the exchange of knowledge, techniques, and experience. Additionally, case studies, discussions and Q&A sessions further enriched the learning experience for us as well.

As Japan’s only remaining film processing lab, we have long been committed to building strong relationships with both domestic and international archive institutions and content holders. We continue to create opportunities to leverage our highly skilled personnel and specialized equipment in the field of film preservation. This training program not only addressed TFAI’s needs as it actively expands its film restoration initiatives but also served as a model for fostering talent and enhancing preservation facilities.

Moreover, this international cultural exchange provided us with a valuable opportunity to refine our expertise while collaborating with TFAI to further advance our technical capabilities. Moving forward, we will continue contributing to the development of film archives worldwide, including in the Asia-Pacific region, through ongoing international partnership.

We remain dedicated to preserving and promoting film culture by leveraging our expertise and experience to provide services that exceed our clients' expectations.
